Tuesday 17 July 2018 Umbria Jazz hosts the only Italian summer date of the Chainsmokers, American duo winner of the Grammy Awards in 2017 in the Best Dance Recording category and author of many hits such as’ Closer ‘,’ Do not Let Me Down ‘and above all’ Something Just Like This’, the latter made together with Coldplay and taken from their debut album ‘Memories … Do Not Open’. The Chainsmokers continue to beat every record of streaming and views: just think of ‘Closer’, which has totaled over 2 billion and 100 million views. Their contribution to dance pop is second to none, as well as their ability to excite: their recent tribute to Avicii during the Billboard Music Awards was the most touching moment of the whole ceremony. With their sixth place, the Chainsmokers are the first Americans in the Top 100 DJs of DJ Mag magazine.
Umbria Jazz has always been a transversal review, which likes to indulge in some high-level electronic digressions. This year’s Chainsmokers concert is ideally connected to those who have starred in Ralf with his DJ set in 2012, in 2014 again Ralf with the Techno Logical Dance Music Festival together with Juan Atkins and Ellen Allien, in 2015 Gilles Peterson of BBC, the highest prophet of world music applied to electronics, and especially last year the Kraftwerk with their 3D Concert: their performance at the Santa Giuliana Arena – the same where they perform the Chainsmokers – was absolutely exciting.
